This article is about staying clean and organized. When your surroundings are clean and organized, your mind and your life is going to follow suit. Stop being lazy. Get off the fucking couch and clean some dishes, do your laundry, organize your vanity, and for fuck sake scrub the fucking toilet.
Some of us are anal about keeping a clean space and staying organized. You guys rock. Keep at it. But if you are like me and get lazy as fuck sometimes and just can’t get your ass up to fold and put away the laundry, this is your little pep talk.
My mother was one of those super clean and tidy people and I never fucking understood that. I work over ten hours a day and I have my dog and cats to take care of. At the end of the day I really don’t want to come home and clean the whole house. I just wanna take a fat bong rip, eat some crackers, and binge watch Netflix until I have to go to bed and do it all over again. So how do we motivate ourselves?
If you’re like me, you’ll get little bursts of energy randomly that will give you that push to get everything nice and tidy. Maybe it’s my bipolar or maybe it’s just that little bit of my mother in me that gets me going. Neither here nor there, it eventually gets done. And then I feel great!
But what about those days when I don’t have that burst of energy? How do I still continue to motivate myself? I don’t always succeed, trust. But I try to do something every day to help keep things in check. I will always set a goal for myself. Whether it’s to just clean the litter boxes and bring trash down or run the dishwasher or get through one load of laundry, I make sure to accomplish something every single day. Small goals are easier to achieve than large goals. And if you are doing something every day, you won’t have such a giant mess to clean when you finally get that burst of energy to really get cleaning.
I highly suggest making lists for yourself every day. Lists of small goals everyday keep you motivated, give you a sense of accomplishment, and it’s always satisfying to scratch off everything on your to do list.
Try to make sure everything has a place. I have a basket on a table by my front door that always has my keys, sunglasses, and dog leash. I always know where those things are because that is where they always go. Storage bins and labeling things is also helpful in staying organized.
Keep your surroundings clear and you’ll keep your mind clear. Or something like that.
